Many Christians today believe in a “sacred/secular” divide. They will go to church on Sunday, listen to the sermon, have devotional time in the morning, and maybe even attend a small group. That is the “holy stuff.” Life outside of those things, however, is in a different realm entirely. Although God may theoretically still be in charge, many believers live as if that is not true. God is the God of the church. Again, they may not say this with their mouths, but their lives reveal it just the same.

It can be easy to drift into this trap–especially in a world that is in such deep rebellion against God. However, we must remember that the Bible knows nothing of a sacred/secular divide.

Jesus said plainly: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me” (Matthew 28:18).

This is an all-encompassing, all-comprehensive reign and rule. Jesus is the King over every square inch of creation. This ought to embolden us to live, work, serve, and legislate in a way that honors King Jesus.

Once we truly believe that Jesus has all authority, we can go make disciples of all nations with the confidence that He sits enthroned and is with us always (Matthew 28:20).
