Out-of-state teacher unions spent millions to place a radical measure on the ballot that would end Arizona’s successful ESA scholarship program, stripping educational choice from tens of thousands of students overnight.
In response, lawmakers referred two strong countermeasures to protect military family scholarships and stop taxpayer subsidies of union activity. Now the unions are desperate for a deal—they want a special session to pull back these countermeasures in exchange for crushing reforms and clawing back these important measures. Their desperation reveals weakness: they likely lack signatures, fear legal challenges, or can’t afford to fight on multiple fronts. Now is the time to stand strong, defend our ESA program, and not hand the teacher unions a victory when they are on the heels of defeat.
