For far too long, the church has been silent in the political sphere, which has opened the door for godless ideologies to rule our land. Although we were once a Christian nation, we have forgotten our roots and strayed far from our Creator and obedience to His law.
But thankfully, believers in Christ are waking up and wanting to take back our nation. We don’t have to change the country overnight. Truly seeing our land turn back to Christ will require slow, steady steps–likely over the course of generations. Yet just because we may not live to see the cathedral completed doesn’t mean we shouldn’t lay bricks where God has placed us. Our small, faithful steps now will bless our children and our children’s children later.
To that end, here are four practical steps you can take to be more politically active as a Christian.
1. Write a letter to one of your elected representatives
This can be short, sweet, and to the point. Let him or her know who you are, what issues are important to you, and–most of all–that you are praying for them. You may even receive a response, which could be an open door for the gospel.

Subject: A Constituent Request for Courage and Clarity on Life and Children
Dear [Representative],
I am writing as a constituent in your district and as a Christian who takes civic responsibility seriously.
I know political issues are complex, but there are two matters that are clear to me and many others I speak with:
First, protecting every human life.
Abortion remains legal because unborn children are still denied equal protection under the law. I am asking you to support policies and legislation that recognize and protect human life beginning at fertilization, without exceptions that undermine justice.
Second, protecting children from age-inappropriate explicit material.
Public schools and libraries should be safe places for children. I am asking you to oppose the normalization of sexually explicit content being made accessible to minors and to support enforcement of existing obscenity laws.
These issues are not partisan to me. They are moral, civic, and foundational. I want to support leaders who act with courage, clarity, and consistency rather than political convenience.
Thank you for your service and for taking the time to consider the concerns of those you represent and know that I am praying for you.
In Christ,

2. Host a Biblical Citizenship class
We’ve done this here at Red State Reform multiple times and it has been a great blessing. The course, Biblical Citizenship in Modern America (produced by Patriot Academy), does an excellent job helping people see the intersection of faith and politics. Hosting a class at your home or church is a simple, impactful way to bring biblical clarity to your community.
3. Organize corporate prayer at your church for civil leaders
Scripture tells us, “…I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions…” (1 Timothy 2:1–2 ESV). God commands His people to pray for civil leaders. What better way to obey this than by gathering a group at your church to pray by name for local officials, state leaders, and national authorities?

4. Support a Christian running for public office
We need more faithful believers in positions of political power–starting locally and moving outward from there. But they can’t do it alone. Supporting a fellow Christian running for office is a powerful way to get involved and effect real change. Volunteer, donate, share their message, or simply encourage them in the Lord.
Again, we don’t have to change the world in a day. Small, faithful steps are the key. If the Lord Jesus truly has all authority in heaven and on earth (and He does, cf. Matthew 28:18), then we should be ready as His people to declare His kingship over all areas of life–including politics.
